but they are still cheap at thrift stores and garage sales

how about when you would here two songs playing at the same time. :eek2: i looved playing the Smokey and the bandit 8 track in my dads groovy van when we were kids. The quality was quite crap  :lol:

Don't forget the matchbook wedged under the 8-track so it will  help  the songs to be clearer and play the song clearly because no the tape is hitting the tape heads all the way.
