ac or ac/dc stick welder

I was thinking of getting a stick welder to supliment my 135 amp Lincoln mig welder on heavier material. Found a Miller Thunder XL 225  for a couple hundred. Its an ac box ,does the AC/DC do that much more?

For general welding at home you probably dont need the DC.  DC would be used for different welding requirements and uses special rods. It all has to do with the type of welding you are wanting to do and heat/penetration and puddle width.
