timothy mcveigh product of democrat and union upbringing Lets use all the facts.... We've been down this road before.

Osama Bin Laden didn't grow up in a cave either.  He was the product of a ton of western influence, and yet he proceeded to become the living embodiment of anti-western extremism.

I don't want to get any further off topic so I'll end with this; Bin Laden was NOT a product of western influence, he used people on both sides of the fence for his own personal gain... In other words he used them like a cheap watch and then threw it away when he was done. He was no dummy. He was raised anti-west and never changed. Another typical "product of your environment",  just like McVeigh.

Now back to your regularly scheduled "Explosion in Boston"  ;)

Well, that's fairly accurate. People forget OBL came from big Saudi money and had a good education but he left because he became a problem for his family and the backstabbing Saudi government.

what i was saying about the phones was that today's generation are so focused on their phones that they are unobservant to the extreme. have a pedestrian crossing near work and I've lost count of the number of hits/near misses.they just don't look, to busy typing as they walk

I totally agree.... Unless it is on that little screen!!!!! They damn sure see that!!!!

I heard some time last year from a friend in Boston that they watched another person jump foreword at a subway station. Said it looked like he was going to throw another guy in front of the oncoming train, but actually grabbed and pulled him back away from the train.. The teen had music playing into headphones or an ear plug type and was standing right at the edge of the platform.. She said she stays quit a ways back because she has heard people get sucked in toward the train and she weighs under 100 pounds.. So I would add listening to loud music in the wrong places to that....

Face it, McVeigh was a right-wing extremist and he blew up a bunch of babies.

(Not that I'm saying left-wing extremists are somehow any better.  Extremists are extremists IMHO.)

Most right wingers love God and their country and believe in the Constitution. McVeigh was a self proclaimed atheist and was such a radial he was booted out of the Michigan Militia. He was not affiliated with either party but them Dems like to call him a right wing nut job so they can associate a child killer with the right.

This is from today's Boston Herald..................

Here is what we know thus far:

The cops have photos of one of the suspects, or two.

The suspect(s) may be either "dark-skinned" (CNN) or "white" (CBS).

They were carrying backpacks, or maybe bags.

The backpacks, or bags, were black, unless they were blue.

The bombs were detonated by control boards, unless it was cellphones, unless it was egg timers.

Yesterday's press conference was supposed to take place at 5, until it was supposed to take place at 8, until it was canceled.

The media descended on the federal courthouse on Northern Avenue because the suspect was in custody — no, actually it was because a bomb threat had been phoned in.

Yesterday was not a day in which the local and national media covered themselves with glory. It reminded me of my days as a college-boy rewrite man in the Hearst empire, taking dictation from the old-time Hearst legmen. Often they were wrong, never were they in doubt.

I don't particularly want to point fingers here, if only because I got the same bad information. My source said he was getting it from "the White House."

But this is the way it's been from the beginning. Like everybody, I hope the cops are closing in, but over the past 48 hours there seems to have been a real epidemic of bureaucratic CYA around here.

The first outbreak was observed Monday, when Police Commissioner Ed Davis assured the press it was "not true" that a Saudi national was a suspect, er, person of interest.

Three hours later, the Boston cops raided the Revere apartment of the Saudi national who was not a "person of interest."

It was reported that in Revere, bomb-sniffing dogs had either had several "hits," or hadn't.

And by the way, am I the only one wondering what has become of the state secretary of public safety, Andrea Cabral? Is she "fanning out" across the city? Even Lt. Gov. Tim "Crash" Murray briefly emerged from hiding Tuesday, his eyes nervously darting across the Westin Hotel meeting room, trying to spot anyone who might be advancing on him with a subpoena.

Gov. Deval Patrick has also been a source of some confusion in these chaotic hours. With zero evidence that anyone has been engaging in any ethnic profiling, he sternly lectured the bitter clingers Tuesday against any ... ethnic profiling.

Then he said, "We're all in this together."

Not really, Deval. There are at least one, maybe two people who blew up a bunch of us with pressure cookers triggered by control panels, cellphones or egg timers. No, we are not all in it together.

Catch the SOB's and give them a fair trial and HANG the SOB's ! Let's make it a public hanging just for fun!  I am tired of these pansy-azz leaders and this "come-by-ya" world we live in! It's past time people stood up for what they believe in and stop worrying about "offending" any group that may bear responsibility!

What happened to this Country? I, genuinely, feel sorry for the young people of today and what the future may bring!

McVeigh gets called a right-winger for obvious reasons.

He was a young white male with short buzzed hair, he was a former serviceman, he was against the current Federal govt, the last group he fit into before going totally over the edge was a Militia, and he bombed the federal building in retaliation for the FBI's abuse of power at Ruby Ridge.  The reason that 10 out of 10 people in the media thought "right wing extremist" is because 10 out of 10 random people off the street would be thinking the same thing after hearing that profile.

What about those ELF whackjobs who do things like setting fire to Humvee dealerships?   I could probably point to several reasons why they are too far out there for mainstream left-wing groups like the Democratic party, etc. Would you object to the media calling them "left wing extremists?"  Would you consider that an unfair media label that was used to smear the left-wing?

My ultimate point is that neither right-wing or left-wing viewpoints deserve blame for the acts of the extremists within their ranks.

Say what?  With the exception of a physical description or the fact that he was in the service, to me that would be patriot, not any-winger. If you blindly follow everything the government does and says and not question it does not make you a right or left winger, it makes you a sheep.

I don't ever recall seeing such terrible news coverage on a story such as this one.   ::)

Not mistakes or opinions, it's just blatant stupidity by not confirming ANY of the "exclusive stories" & "law enforcement sources" everywhere in a rush to be first to cover it. Even last night, the news feed that I read online before going to bed stated that a "120 pound black man had shot & killed the MIT police officer".

I've lost all faith in the media's ability to get anything right.

I am just guessing here, but I know I would not be feeling to safe living in Boston right now with a crazy guy running through the city.  With some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, I am sure if he came to the door, he would leave if you asked real nice.  ::)

A "patriot" blows up a federal building full of innocent people?

The only people who equate "right wing" with "patriot" are right wingers.  (And the only people who equate "left wing" with "patriot" are left-wingers.)

I'm not saying that seviceman = right winger, or that right-winger = extremist, or that "right-wing" even necessarily means very far from the center.

I'm just saying that the overall description of McVeigh, taken together, would make the average person guess that he probably aligns himself with far-right political views.  (Whether that characterization is fair or unfair is beside my point.)  And when a person blows up 160+ innocent people without any ostensible reason, well . . . it's safe to assume he also meets the criteria for "extremist."

With no obvious personal links to the building or people inside it, people's next guess for his motivation is naturally going to be his political or religious views.  He showed no obvious religious motivations but his political views seemed relevant to why he did it.
