That's the problem with most of us today, (or at least the younger generation) they're no longer observant. They don't look left or right or even straight ahead. They are so focused on themselves instead of what's going on around them. They see nothing, they hear nothing.
Take those earplugs out of your ears and hear, stop staring at your mobile phone and see. Look around you and see what's happening. You'll be amazed at what you're missing.
blame it on technoledgy .seems  anyone under 30  their life revolves around the mobil phone/i pad  . to this day i still don't have a mobile    makes my days so much less stressfull

You got that right. The Mrs and I won't be at onyone's beck and call. Of of the opinion, the phone is there for my convenience, I won't be a slave to it.
I do have one for emergency purposes though (prepaid, just in case I need to call a tow truck) But no one has the number.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

I'm under 30 and think I got either a prototype phone, or one that is outdated. It has a couple of unique features.  The first one is a mute feature.  If someone calls and it's inconvenient for me to answer, I can push the volume down button and silence the ringtone.  :o  I can then continue what I was doing in peace.  Surprisingly, I can make an actual phone call on it without twittling my thumbs.  This other one shocked me.  It's called the Power button.  I can actually turn my phone off.  It's kind of scary really.  I can go fishing out in the middle of nowhere in peace and enjoy the sounds of nature instead of digital dial tones.  Oh look, the computer has one too!  I wonder if it works the same way. :scratchchin:  Anybody else have any of these features? :nana:

Fred

ha ha!!  The problem is most users don't want to turn their phones off or not answer incoming calls and texts. It's like the world will end if they don't answer immediately.

Has no one got any will power any more?

Where's that button at?

I've got a prepaid one too. It's off far more then it's on. I check it once a day. 'nuff said.

I have a feeling that bomb would still have gone off if this incident had occurred before young people all had cell phones.

Lack of cell phones didn't do anything to hold up the Oklahoma City bombing.
They only caught that guy because (through some feat of magic) they got the rental truck's VIN number off a chunk of the axlehousing.

It's hard to even watch the news right now because they all keep rehashing the same info. Some of the speculation is pure BS. CNN last night had several jack asses including Wolf Biltzer who speculated that this could be the work of right wing extremists.

Wolf Blitzer is an idiot. A right wing extremist might walk up to him, bust a lip and dot an eye for saying stupid shit like that, but he wouldn't blow innocent people up.

Well, not unless the right wing extremist was bombing a federal building in Oklahoma City.

Lets see, MSNBC was asking where George Bush was Monday afternoon and the lovely Ladies of Fox news suggested it might have something to do with Obama's almost dead gun bill.  Got a love the media.

Mike DC....timothy mcveigh was caught because an Oklahome state trooper pulled him over for a licence plate that was ready to fall off the car.....when he walked up to the drivers side of the car he noticed the handle of a handgun under his leg...he was arrested and held on a fire arms charge....evidence found in the car raised suspicion and the pieces of the puzzle were put together....he was almost released on his own recognizance....but because of things found in the car they held him until they could be followed up on...the rest is history....

Back to the CELL PHONE PEOPLE..  I don't think anyone is trying to say that the use of cell phones is a particularly bad thing. I think it is more that people have become even more (ME ME ME). I understand completely and agree with those whom think many with cell phones MUST ANSWER or CHECK MESSAGES immediately. I see it all the time and I watched this transition in my own home..

My wife pushed getting a cell for me when I worked out of town 6 days per week. Turned out I did have an emergency while set up very far out in a campground. I wanted to be long away from everyone else as I worked nights.  A few years later our older daughter was driving. Gotta have a cell for her!! Well, by that time they had FAMILY PLANS and sure as hell the wife and I and BOTH daughters got cell phones...

Our younger daughter would get on her cell, 2 house lines and MY SPACE and she would keep up with every conversation.. I was amazed!!!! Well, she was not very observant of her surroundings anymore. That daughter went from the best driver of sand rails and go-carts in our area to the worst driver on the road.. I can't remember all the wrecks she has been in.. She is 22 now and has totalled 3 cars that I can remember..

Is this the fault of the cell phone on the mind?? I can't say 100%... I can tell you that since she had her son she has a new MOST IMPORTANT and has not had a wreck since. Not even a flat tire!!!  I needed my own tow truck before that!!!

BREAKING NEWS: SUSPECT ID'D!!!!!  :2thumbs:

Steve P.

Lots of conflicting reports. They say something is looking forward, but they are just slightly above zero.

Keep in mind all the news stations are trying to be FIRST TO REPORT for ratings.. This tends to lead to much BS...  :rotz:

I miss the days of Walter Cronkite and his FACTUAL NEWS.  :'(

what i was saying about the phones was that today's generation are so focused on their phones that they are unobservant to the extreme. have a pedestrian crossing near work and I've lost count of the number of hits/near misses.they just don't look, to busy typing as they walk

I AGREE! Just a minute ago CNN said they had someone in custody and was being taken to Federal Courthouse. Now they say no suspect in custody! WTF? Try and be credible and triple check your facts before you report. Thought that was journalism 101? IDIOTS!

You and me both. Too bad lying isnt a felony... Washington would be a ghost town and there would probably only be a couple TV stations, Speed channel and TV Land.

Its just a race between the stations to see who gets ANY information, whether credible or not, out there first!

Osama Bin Laden didn't grow up in a cave either.  He was the product of a ton of western influence, and yet he proceeded to become the living embodiment of anti-western extremism.

Face it, McVeigh was a right-wing extremist and he blew up a bunch of babies.

(Not that I'm saying left-wing extremists are somehow any better.  Extremists are extremists IMHO.)

Absolutely!   When the SandyHook shooting took place all the local news wanted to jump on it so fast that half the information was wrong for most of the day...the situation was horrible enough, the least they can do is fact check and then report on the actual incident....    :rotz:
