Quick question...

Is a 383 column-shift car going to be worth more than a 318 column-shift car?

I don't have any numbers matching parts, so it's really just a question of if the 383 VIN number is more valuable.

Thanks
-Joe

Yes! Factory big block cars are always worth more on a "desirable" body style. Four doors or station wagons probably won't have any impact...

yes for sure
not as desireably as an r/t but has more appeal then a slant 6 or 318 car

is it a 383 hp?

and what year is the car?

It's a 69 Charger.

No, it doesn't have the HP option. I decoded the tag here... http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,92289.msg1169988.html#msg1169988

I don't have any numbers matching parts, so it's really just a question of if the 383 VIN number is more valuable.

Why a Kiwi?

Thanks for the welcome. This is a great community.

If both cars are completely identical in options and condition then the bigger engine gets the biggest bucks.  If, however the 318 has more interesting (rare) options then it will likely bring more money.  If a rattletrap pos R/T comes along it'll somehow bring in more than either.

Unforeseen complications have forced me to go with the 318. Oh well. Thanks to everyone for the input.

A 318 car will always be my first choice.  Unless it's a rare one, you'll never feel bad for giving it some personal touches, changing colors and such.

I was double fortunate to find a 318 mutt that was cloned into an R/T.

Besides, that 318 is going to give you nice gas mileage, not something you can say with a 440.   :eek2:

Yeah, I do enjoy adding personal touches without worrying about originality.

I have a 400 to drop in, so I'm not going to be getting the best gas mileage. Will be more fun though. :)

They're all fun.  The 440 is a blast but having to fill it up weekly gets old fast.  If it wasn't for the torque I would actually prefer a sb since all I do is cruise.  But man that torque is hard to give up!

I agree with this.. exCEPT... I bought a 383 car and am glad I did.   I'm gonna bolt a 440 right down in it and give it those personal touches without feeling bad about 'ruining' an R/T  :)

Yeah, I do enjoy adding personal touches without worrying about originality. Drop in a striker 360, same torque and hp , just less weight hanging over the front wheels

318 will only do about 5 more MPG than a 440 when talking STOCK engines in a Big ass B-body. Think about it, you will have to work the hell outta that 318 just to move that big ol pig. (3800 LBS). So, a 440 gives you less mileage, but then again, WTF drives one of these for mileage anyway??

Mine is rated in SMILES to the gallon, NOT miles to the gallon. I have a Toyota for that.

You don't drive it FOR the mileage, but it's still a factor.  Lots of guys can get close to 20 mpg out of a 318, it's all in how you drive it.  If you live in a hilly area then the 318 would be a pita though.   :icon_smile_big:

Not bad!  My 383 with 3:23 gears and 727 would do no better than 13-14 on the highway, but I was younger and my foot has lost a bit of weight since then.

With the current charger, 440/727 with 2:96 I can't seem to do better than 11 mpg on the freeway.

It is kinda funny how some will consider MPG when buidling/driving their Charger, but will daily drive a 10-13 MPG Newer Hemi Truck.....
