First time I have dealt with one. Got it from 440 source and the plastic piece where the battery cables mount was hitting the block so I removed it and set the starter in place and the large cable bolt is less than a 1/4 of an in. from the block to the point I have to bolt the cables on before I bolt the starter in place.  Did I get the wrong  starter or do they all fit that way ? :shruggy:

yea..it's a tight fit...but if your cable lug is small, it won't touch the block

I have even had to cut off the top of the "Big stud" in order to keep it from grounding out on the rear freeze plug hole.

I am thinking about doing the same thing but the plastic shield does fit but just barely ..

Yea they are close. I put a rubber boot over the terminal in mine in case I ever drop a wrench in there.  :Twocents:

mine was the same, bit close for comfort , I bolted end of lead on to starter and ground excess thread not great but gave me maybe 1/8 more room, discarded the plastic block as I edge of that was hard against block.

Had to put a new one on my big block today also. Its a tight fit and my block has a small casting line kinda what looks like a weld that I actually had to grind a little bit to get the bottom bolt to line up straight. The one I took off fit fine but you could see where it was rubbing on that casting line so I took a lil bit off of that line to make this one fit. Seems like I have read where others have had to do a little grinding on the block to get the mini starter to fit also. My starter actually went out at a car show yesterday. Drove it in there and had to haul it home. I was not a happy camper. Still got a trophy tho so I guess it wasnt all bad.
