The best part was when they went to commercials.  The Valvoline one is better than any Super Bowl commercial I have seen in years.

I dozed off around lap 60 for 15 - 20 minutes.  I never really thought there was anything of interest throughout the race.  Perhaps when the 17 was hunting down the 20, thought maybe something good was gonna happen there.  Sure there were a couple of incidents, other than that, not too much on track excitement.

Boring? ??? You should have stayed awake. That was a great race. There were some great wrecks. Several different people getting penaltys for aggressive driving. Middle fingers flying everywhere. They were 3 to 4 wide at some points. Some real great racing going on.The Penske Dodges ran up near the front for most of the race. What the heck is not to like about that. Great race to Ryan and Kurt. . . . .

I liked it. I just needed my Nascar fix.

I was really rooting for the 2nd place finisher, Ryan Newman in his Dodge Charger R/T Daytona SuperBee Hemi Srt-8 Nascar. :icon_smile_big:

The only thing that sucked about the race was the 48 car winning :puke: Ya, the Mark Martin & UPS commercials were funny as all heck :yesnod:

I had to turn it off. The number of ads made me want to  :puke:.
I turned it back on with 30 laps to go.
Because of the weather they couldn't get any in car camera shots which are the best part of the race. It also wouldn't have killed the camera guys to wipe the water off the lenses once and a while. With this being the last year for NBC to broadcast NASCAR apparently they don't care about the quality of the broadcasts.

I am not a big fan of the in car unless there showing how it looked during a accident. But I do agree about the camera lenses not being cleaned off.

uuummmm   congrats to second place Casey Mears and THIRD place Ryan Newman. it always amazes me how after the race NBC and speed seem to have at least one cars finishing position wrong. it was obvious watching the race that casey had position on ryan when the yellow flew. then they say ryan had second , then they say casey had second..i can see where people get confused...at least dilner got his shirt buttoned right this race (the first time he was on air in homestead his buttons were off by one hole  :icon_smile_big:) i wonder how some of these guys ever get on the air?
I for one am gladd to see the 48 take the winn if a dodge couldnt. heck i would have even ben happy to see kurt bush get a daytona winn in a dodge. but i never did expect him to finish even tho he was running really well all day.

The cars on the track go 'round and 'round, 'round and 'round, 'round and 'round
The cars on the track go 'round and 'round, way too long...

I thought it was a good race, but they still need to do away with the restrictor plates, and let the cars just run wide open. It still seems too hard to pass whoever is in front. Which isn't right. If they can safely run 200 at Atlanta then they can run 240+ at Talladega and Daytona safely in my mind.

Personally, I like the short sprint races like the 125 qualifiers, the Bud Shootout, the All Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and all of the IROC races.

The IROC race on Friday night was great racing.

Actually the only thing that pissed me off is that there was so many commercials.  At the beginning of the race we were lucky to see two laps of that before breaking to another long set of commercials.

I could not agree more. I cannot stand the "cheats" I mean the 48 team either. Way to go Ryan on a 3rd place win. . . . .

actually they couldnt. the open wheel series have done some tests and found that drivers start blacking out at about 230 with all the g forces theyre pulling, especially at high banked tracks like daytona and 'dega. Fighter pilots withstand higher g-forces, but not for 3-4 hours at a time.

There is a difference in the INdy cars running 235 at Texas and a NASCAR car running 230 at Talladega. Not as sharp of a corner, therfore less G's. So I still say its possible for them to run it. If the INDY cars can run 230 mph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway without any adverse effects of G forces, then the NASCAR cars can run 230 at Talladega or Daytona considering that their corners are banked and actually Talladega's track was designed for a car to run 200+.

Rusty did some testing at Dega in 2004 without the plates....

In a draft they'd go faster! :o

Anyone notice that the annnouncers extremely rarely, if at all, mentioned the sponsor of Any of the cars ??

Used to be they'd say," Ryan Newman in the Alltel Dodge"  , or " Matt Kenseth in the DeWAlt tools Ford" , etc.
This race they'd say "Newman in the # 12 - or Kenseth in the # 17"

I'd bet most sponsors are pretty pissed off, I'd sure be if I were paying millions to have my companies nname on the car...

True they would be faster in a draft, but without a restrictor plate there wouldn't be a 43 car draft. Some of the teams wouldn't be able to keep up and would fall out of the draft just like they do at other tracks like Atlanta, and Texas and Vegas. Cars could and would pass easier. To me a draft of 43 cars playing chess isn't fun or exciting to watch.

dkn1997

I was there and it was a great race.  some wrecks, plenty of lead changes, green/white checker at the end.  some bad blood.  it's all good.

as far as nascar's days being numbered.  yeah, ok.  it's only the most popular sport in the country.  no other sport can get 100,000 plus fans to a single event most weeks of the year for at least 100bucks a seat.

and any type of rule that makes them run closer together is a good one.  while a line of 43 cars drafting might seem "boring" to some, it's way better than the good old days when guys were winning races by a lap or two instead of a few car lengths like they do now.

Now, the smallest mistake will cost you dearly and you have to pick your spots.  every decision they make from the moment they go green can cost you the race.  To me, that's exciting.

Trust me, I am not even a huge NASCAR fan, I am way more into the yankees, so I have no stake in the arguement,

also, take the plate away and let them run 200+ and they start flying into the stands....it's happened before.

Another note on nascar's popularity:  they lost probably one of the most popular drivers ever when Earhnhart (sp?) died and the sport has flourished since despite that.  Look what happended to basketball when Jordan retired.....Nobody cares about it anymore (trust me, they cared before and B ball was getting pretty huge in this country)

how do nascar drivers pee while they race?  ???
