Fan pulley for a 440 without A/C

This winter I decided to restore and get back to all factory parts for the cooling system on my Charger R/T (w/o AC). Previous owners have not been nice to the car so pretty much everything was hacked up without any concern about using correct parts.

I still have a doubt about the pulley for the fan / water pump. The pulley on the car has no markings at all and measures about 6.5 inch. I think the correct pulley is 1821452, at least that is what the parts book tell me. Are the part number supposed to be stamped on the pulley or how can I verify if I have the correct one?

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I was under the impression that non A/C 440s had a slight underdrive, like .9:1, WP pulley about ( slightly smaller ) same as crank. Severe service/max cooling/cop were like 1.4:1.
Good luck, Chango

Thanks guys for the info.

I have done some investigation here and if my conclusions are right, non A/C cars are supposed to use a 2 groove crank pulley. One groove measure 6 9/16 and the other 7 3/8, according to BPE. Maye a dumb question, but I need to ask: The outer groove are for the PS and the inner groove for the WP / alternator, right?

All in all I think I need to get me a new crank pulley and WP pulley. The outer diameter on my WP pulley is 6 1/2 which seems a bit too small. BPE states an outer diameter of 6 7/8.

The crank pulley on my engine is a 3 groove style with the two outer grooves measuring 6 1/2". Exactly the same size as my WP pulley, see the picture below. The innermost groove (larger than the two outer) is not used.

Also, the PS pump on my car is shimsed using a stack of washers, attached a picture of that too. I guess someone did that to get the belts to line up. I think the PS brackets are correct but any ideas on how to identify that are welcome. It is a Saginaw pump anyway. Not sure if these were used in -68, I thought the Federal was used and that Saginaw came in later. Anyway, I guess that type of alignment problems come when using incorrect pulleys.

Many parts on my engine front have been wrong so I am not a bit surprised that the pulleys are a mix of unknown parts. The butchers before me did a good job, that's for sure.  :flame:

It would be great if someone with a non A/C 440 could post some pictures on a corect engine front, would help me a lot!
