Want to keep the original look.  Found great regulators with date codes, but not getting lucky with alternators.  Want to get as close to original as possible, anyone know a place?  Checked Year One first, but nothing good. Thanks.

There's a pretty good article in the Feb. 2013 issue of Mopar Action on DIY resto for alternators ( or any die cast aluminum), if you're into doing it yourself.

Unfortunately I do not have an original core to rebuild, but if I come across one I will definitely give it a shot.  Will pick up that issue for future reference, thanks!

For what year and engine?

For a 69 440  -  537 (last 3 part numbers on the pad) is the alternator you want.

The whole number is 2642537

These are out there - I see them them all of the time. Contact Dixie to see what they have - they do excellent work.

The 69 Hemi uses a different alternator number that is very, very hard to find.

Yes, for the 440.  My Hemi still has the factory one, never went bad!  Thanks for the lead, just called them, unfortunately they did not have a core or anything is stock at this time.  I will keep their number and keep checking back.  Never thought it would be so hard to find, with so many 440's around.

i have a guy locally that rebuilds for a reasonable price. I am giving him a 2 wire to make into a 3 wire for use in my new wiring harness. He rebuilt my original starter for less than the cost of a new one. He also has cores available. Oldtimer that is working part time has a lifetime of parts and pieces around the shop. He is located in central Mass.

Haven't had a chance to followup on this lately.  If you get a chance at some point maybe you can ask about one for a 69 440.  Date code should be late, mine was June 10.  Looking for one a bit stronger than stock, maybe in the 45 amp range or so and single pulley. Thanks for the info.

They restore your original or have rebuilt date coded ones that look factory original. I can't vouch for their quality but I know they've been around for a good while.

I've called both these places and left my info, waiting for someone to get back to me.  :shruggy:  From my experience, Hemi parts are easier to get, though more expensive.

you can get a bird cage look alike from summit racing and up the out put at the same time brand is power master , don't make my mistake and make sure you get a externally regulated one wire , I got there in the end and very similar in look to the originals. Oh and not a bad cost either, I went the restored way first and had a batch of bad cases fatigued and one broke when doing up, not much better with the next .
