That's cool, did you find it metal detecting?

Do you now what it's worth to collectors? Very cool coin.

That must be why they " coined" the expression......here's my two cents.

I kind of dabble in coin collecting. That's a cool coin!  They're not really worth a lot though unless they're very nice. That coin would probably grade "poor", mostly because of the pits and the damage around the edge. But it doesn't appear to have major wear... and everything is still legible. You can buy one with equal wear and no damage to it for about $3-5. So I'll probably value your coin at $1-2. Still not a bad coin though!!

   Thanks Corndog.  I've found a few coins by digging up a sewer line or pool.  I found a 1880 silver dollar in Coloma years ago and a 1923 silver dime that looks mint with sharp edges still when I was digging a trench for electrical.   I'd like to get a metal detector since I seem to have a gift for finding old things and am in lots of old areas.

We are going through our stuff (spring cleaning) and it was in my sons drawer.   I'm pretty sure this is one I gave him long ago that I found N Ca.   It was dirty and we couldn't read it.  So, yesterday I used some Taco Bell hot sauce and rubbed it until it came clean.   I give him old pennies but not the silver when I come across them.   After seeing that this is a 1868 2 cent coin I'm tempted to keep it.    :icon_smile_big:   Just kidding, I'll give it back.    :'(   I'm affraid that most places I go a metal detector is not permitted.   Actually, I'm not supposed to take anything I find.   So I just have to be sneaky sneaky.... :icon_smile_wink:

Chuckie had to let that go a while ago. But we do allow him to remain a member because of his wife (but exactly what that reason is is unknown).

Taco Bell hot sauce? Very creative. I like the green sauce personally as my cleaning solution. Come visit some time. Chuck.  :callme:
