Technics AM/FM stereo Tuner

I'd like to find a Technics Tuner like this but black finish... do you know if they were released ?

I hate the digital press button tunning select, preffer the wheel to tune up the stations!

I believe this was part of the SC-2020 (System consists of: SU-V16 Int. Amp, ST-S16 Tuner, SL-D212 Turntable, and SB-2020 Speakers) or SC-2020D (System consists of: SU-V16 Int. Amp, ST-S16 Tuner, SL-D212 Turntable, RS-M16 Cassette, and SB-2020 Speakers).  I believe the release date was around 1980/81.

Technics did release black face components around the same era, but you will have to do some searching around.  Did you specifically want Technics, as Yamaha and Sansui also had a lot of black face components around the same time?  I'm afraid that most of what you find from that era will be digitally tuned versus analog.

If you look further down in the Ebay posting for the Technics tuner there is a Sansui TU-717 tuner that is mighty pretty and is the style/color you want.

I have a Black series Technics components from 87/89 that was incomplete ( my Dad bought just amp, turntable and tape back in the years ) and I finished to complete it matched couple of years ago buying on ebay.

SLBD3 turntable
SLP600C CD player
RS-T11 tape
SH8038 EQ
SU700 Amp

and STS96 Tuner, But damn! I LOVE the feeling of a fully analog tuning wheel!!! specially if they are weighted!

I remember have found on ebay a fully analog radio what will match the same components I have at home when I was hunting to complete the system, but it was in Australia... something like STZ300 or 200 or 3000 or 300 ( I can't recall )... that was a BEAUTIFULL radio! Maybe just released for that market

BUT DAMN!!!! in Australia!, and 240V ( we are 110-120V here same like USA )

will be great find something like that in USA
is not something really fashion or HiFi device, not big functions or options, just basic, but matches the rest of the equipment

I like the horizontal tuning wheel, similar to what I have on my Marantz tuners and receivers.  Another idea to find one is to make a list of the Technics tuners that would be acceptable and then do a national craigslist search to see if any are out there. Hopefully one could be found near a forum member who would be willing to check it out/ship it.

I too like to have a component system where all the pieces match or at the least are very similar is size and looks.  Good luck in your search.

I preffer the traditional vertical pot, even better weighted, but it seems doesn't exist.

I used the model number to look online & it seems they're all in the silver finish if one is available. 

Maybe it's time for masking tape, black paint & patience?

we have some more "portable" available locally, able to hold 50W.



anyway, I have to wait to get some funds... the AU tuner shipping is around $75... being the price around US$11.5 just for the item, the Tuner will be total less then $90. Not excesivelly expensive in total, but being more a wish than a need, is something I can't afford at this moment
