Indeed!!!! from the front its a 68, from the back, its a 69, and overall it has the feel of a 70, it's the best compromise for someone like me who can't choose 1 year alone

Keep up the good work but how can you beat this...................

I wish i could chrome paint some of my tail light stuff...bought some dupli color chrome paint and it came out silver like and half chrome.

I'd Stick with the '69 Taillights too Baldwin. The 68's looks like a Corvette. :D

Don't forget where those super awsome 68 tail lights came from
I did find an extra set of hood hinges buried in the trunk of the pink car if you are still looking :)
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

Baldwinvette77

The reason im going with 69 lights is 1 my 68 taillights need repairs and to be rechromed, 2. i think 68's look strange without that chrome molding that surrounds the panel. which my modified panel cant accept, 3 my 68 panel is bent on the passenger side from 1 of many accidents the car seem to have been in and is covered in bondo. 4. i like 69's too  :drool5:

Indeed, i will need to return those super awesome 68 lights to their rightful owner, and perhaps be willing to trade for those hinges?... and 69 taillights?  :whistling:

out of boredom, i demoted my welder to a gasless fluxcore unit, and tacked in a patch for my front valance, once i get more gas and steel wire, ill finish it up, i hate flux wire  :eek2:

I think I might have the trunk gutter for this side cut out of a 68 charger sitting in my shop.  I bought it way back in the day when reproduction parts were not available, and ended up not using it.  Yours if you want to pay shipping, I just need to dig it up the next time im back out there (probably this weekend).

Baldwinvette77

Wow, that would be cool of you, Sure

Baldwinvette77

fixed more rust today on my passenger side fender, i swear it's an addiction, once you start, you never wanna stop it  :icon_smile_tongue:

Dude, you really love to weld! I admire your determination.

Baldwinvette77

Yeah it's pretty awesome, to think, there was actually a time i wanted to avoid welding... what the hell was i thinking  :slap:

I think what I enjoy is seeing someone that is using his own skills and determination to repair a car that usually costs a small fortune. It is sorta like a muscle car rat rod, where you are using non stock parts to patch it back together. Real cool!
This may just inspire other car guys to get off of their asses and fix up their own cars.
On a side note:
In 1996, I went to a buddys place and saw that he had totally disassembled his Chevy truck for restoration. At that time I had never taken a car apart to that level. In truth, I was intimidated by the very real possibility that I'd never be able to figure out how to get it back together. My buddy didn't see it as a big deal. I said..."Man...Aren't you worried that you'll never be able to figure out how to get it back together?" He just shrugged and said.." It is just held together with nuts and bolts. Its not that complicated. AFTER hearing that, I developed a sense of newfound bravery. His words woke up my inner gearhead! Since then I have completed numerous teardown and restorations. HIS words made a huge difference in my future.
YOUR efforts may actually be motivating others to do the same.  :2thumbs:

I sure hope so, If this thread can inspire at least 1 person to save a rusty shell, rather than chop the top off and scrap it, my work on this planet will be complete. i don't really know where i got my bravery from But like your buddy said, everything is a pretty straight forward bolt-on, really the only thing that worries me is cost, i can bolt fenders on no problem, but at 1600 cnd$ a pair i'll just chop up some old junk and call it good

Baldwinvette77

yesterday on my lunch break  i walked home and chopped out my taillight panel and stuck on my 69 panel i got, its in damn good shape, only spot of rust has already been patched, not very
well but good enough.

Baldwinvette77

also some old before pics i never posted, cause why not. oh and the patch someone did on the light panel.

WOW.... 2 months and look at the work completed!!! Great work and really very inspiring..

So what is the plan for the steering now that RHD is out?? Sorry if I missed it earlier.. I am a big fan of R&P but wonder if it will cut your turning circle short.. In many parts of the World that probably would not matter so much, but Florida is full of places you have to U_TURN to get where you are going.. Some of those places are not more than 2 lanes wide..

Can't wait to see more...

Panel looks good (and familiar, lol). Take your sweet time installing it so the end caps fit right. Since I did mine I notice in almost every photo how crooked they are. It does take more time, but well worth it in the end.
Glad to see someone enjoying their project. Keep the pics coming!

Thanks  and wow, i cant believe its only been 2 months, felt longer  :o , well the steering plan is a little bit up in the air, i could used 1 of the many stock k-members i've located, cut it up and reuse it with a manual, LHD rack steering (typical rack costs 180$) i'd also modify the lower control arms to use coil overs and corvette spindels, i'd then probably used aftermarket upper arms, i could just save my pennies and order some new tubular bits, but, i dont think the extra cost would be worth the reward, i've also toyed with the idea of chopping up the inner fenders and welding in a mustang 2 suspension, i can buy all the aftermarket stuff locally which would cut shipping costs, also mustang 2 parts are dirt cheap, so yeah, i dont know  :smilielol:

It looks damn good, However a rusted, bent up and hacked panel isnt hard to outshine  and ok i'll take some extra time, i need all the advice i can get,
for example  i couldnt figure out how to bolt on the trunk lid, and so i chopped up my hinges, welded threaded rods into them, cut up the hinge pockets on the trunk to fit them, then bolted them on, there was probably an easier way, but i couldn't think of it  :slap:

So....What are your plans for driving this thing Baldvette? You mentioned it has no title/info. so I was just wondering after all this work, someone should at least see it out somewhere if even on a trailer.
