I know it takes patients and gets frustrating at times, but isn't it cool to see it looking like a car again.    :2thumbs:   And YOU DID IT!    That's what you need to tell yourself as you go.           IT doesn't have to be perfect......... it just has to be.

I, for one, think you are doing a fine job of bringing that old Charger back to life by doing what you can-when you can. Just keep up the good work and post pics of your progress as we all like pics

As for this site having its' cliques, yep, they sure do and it isn't too hard to determine who is in and who is out. Myself, I am surely out, but that does not now or ever before bother me as "I ain't got time for that"! My car is built for ME and if you don't like it, tuff s%#t for you. Build your OWN Charger like you want it and be happy. I didn't build mine to impress anyone but ME.

I had a stroke in the summer of 2010 forcing me to retire and caught me in the middle of the restoration. Now, I have enough residuals that working even on the simplist things became a major challenge, time consuming and very frustrating just trying to do it right the FIRST TIME. Luckily, my friend had the skills and determination to go forward on my car and it is almost done now. I can be there, I just cannot do the work, especially detail work. he just doesn't want me to screw something up that he has to go back and do again to correct my mistake! He has been a lifesaver for me!

About to actually get my Charger back on the road now and it will rarely see a car show even though it is definitely car show worthy. I just want to get that feeling back when I used to drive it, nothing more.

Keep going Baldwinvette, i am very proud of your dedication and drive and welcome back MoparManJim. You, also have been missed. As for doing all the work on your own car makes you and it more worthy of respect, do not assume that because I did not do most of the work on my car, I am just a check-writing restorer. Sometimes fate has a way of getting in the way and you just have to do what life can let you accomplish.

This is becoming a really inspirational thread  :'( :) i love it, yeah and speaking of problems i ran into my first major problem with the charger, THE MAN, someone on my street reported the car as a "Eyesore" and wanted it scrapped, the cops showed up, and if i don't "remove" the car in 2 weeks it'll be towed (good luck with that  :smilielol: ) and i'll get fined 5000$ the way i'm avoiding this is actually by letting a neighbour keep the vette in their garage long enough for me to get the charger looking pretty, ill store the charger in my garage obviously, and hopefully i'll be able to reorganize it to become a 2 car garage again. i'm not worried though i have 13 days left and i already dodged the bullet  :popcrn: but yeah obviously work stalled a little bit, but i'll continue soon, i got the hinges hung, the car is upright and once i fix the rust in the drivers door i'll get those on.then the fenders (for daydreaming purposes) then it will finally look like a charger again  :drool5:

Here's to good neighbors.  :cheers::2thumbs:

Well.....maybe not all of them....

One of the good things about living where I am, no one cares. :icon_smile_big: Im so far from civilization......the nearest wal-mart is over an hour away.

Baldwinvette77

That sounds amazing, i wish i lived in the middle of nowhere, i would just turn my property into a private junkyard  :drool5:

I've got multiple project/parts cars....no one ever complained. So there's some definite pluses. This one a lotta people find hard to believe.....my town zoning requirements read:

Meet state septic standards.

Building must be minimum of 20 feet from property line.

That's it. Hoping to build a new garage this summer......basically I can do as I want. Of course after it is done my taxes will go up, and that's the major bummer. The taxes are very high in my town/state, but I do not have to put up with the BS most people do.  Guess you can't have everything.

been where i am  since 1984, the trick to getting past windging neighbours is to simply outlive them. anyone that moves into vacated houses knows what their getting in to  when they come to view house  :icon_smile_big:

You know where I live
We had a neighbour about 20 years ago call to complain about a blue car (it was a 56 Chev 2dr parts car)at the top of the hill behind the apple orchard to say they did not like seing it because it interfered with their enjoyment of looking at my cows in the pasture
Oh yes they lived 1 mile away
The car sat there till about 5 years ago when I scraped it out :)

That poor 56  :'( and how does a rusty 50's/60's car ruin peoples enjoyment??? i remember going on roadtrips with people who weren't "car guys" and yet we still all loved to see forgotten cars out in the middle of nowhere, it's part of the journey, discovering lost history.  :popcrn:

I am always looking at/for old forgotten cars especially when I drive to Carlisle. Too bad you have lousy neighbors, but sounds like you have a plan, keep up the good work.
I used to own a mopar because it was different, but now I know better.

This was the 1st somewhat disparaging comment & look at how Baldwin answered it.  He didn't get all defensive & bitch & complain.  That right there gains him respect & nobody giving him shit.  The minute someone is defensive, all it takes is one person to give shit back & the flood gates open.
It's real simple, it's all about attitude.

Clique...here?  I've been here since the beginning of the old board.  No one's ever asked me to join their gang, I guess I'm disappointed.

skip68

I have such a mixture of people that like and hate me so it's hard to say who's clique I'm in at any given moment.   There's very few members here I don't like.

Ugh, THE MAN.  We are such a nation of weenies.  What ever happened to THE MAN knocking on your door and asking you to tidy it up?  Or asking how long are you gonna have this project going on?  Or at least can you cover it with a pretty pink tarp with flowers when not working on it....

Instead it's right to the cops to be nannys.

Baldwinvette77

Indeed we are a nation lightweights :rotz: still my plan was to build a car to scare women and children, and piss off hippies with, so i guess by that logic.. it's already working  :shruggy:

Anyways i got the doors hung. and mostly aligned, the drivers door hinge needs to be rebuilt (but i wont since i think it fits my theme) and as you can tell im going for a monochromatic colour scheme

Um, no....No, you don't. I tried this very thing. You REALLY wanna know what happens to the "Middle of nowhere" when you move out there?
YOu finally think to yourself you are the only one there and you can do whatever you like. Wrong. Pretty soon, someone either drives out there passed your property and does "Their good deed" for the day, or the county, city, state decides to "do their good deed" and soon you have the same thing happen, just takes longer.

In my case, I saved for over 10 years for enough money to buy a piece of property BY MYSELF, in the "Middle of nowhere"....Wasn't but two years into it I pulled up for sh*ts a giggles, The Sex offenders website....Bad move.  Guess where the MAN decided to dump all the sh*t of society? Yep, right into the "Middle of nowhere" and therefore, you are no longer alone. Now, I have no less than 20 living within a 10 mile radius. ALso, You cannot just have old cars just sitting around on your property even though it's yours. The MAN has planes that fly overhead and sees all. You will get a summons/fine in the mail and therefore, you are no longer alone in the "Middle of nowhere".....

I do not think we were on the same page on this one. In fact, the fact that you answered that way only helps me temendously. Let's me know who's in and who's out.
Nothing there to "Get an attitude" about that comment. No one will "Ask" you to "join" a "Clique".. just seem to post/behave/etc. the way of the "Clique", and therefore, you have the "Cliquish" thing happening and many do not even want to acknowledge seeing it. I for one have witnessed at least 20 times in the short time I'm here. One person has a thread go south, so another comes in and posts, then another, then another, pretty soon, you have a "Clique and nobody knows how it got started? (MMJ is just ONE prime example of such. Dude doesn't even know this cat, yet he has already formed the very same opinion of him the "Clique" has? Funny how that happens...)

I do however believe some people do not understand the term "Clique" enough to respond in an informative way.  "Face value" type response are Very vague. I can understand how you would feel Disappointed.

Anyway, enough side tracking, I was just wondering if OP saw what I saw happening and was willing to post about it, or clam up like the many who are in the "Clique"...He answered about the best he could without pissing off many here. I do find it funny however, that While the same type things are done to the same type cars, one person is considered a "Hack" for it, yet the other is praised, regardless of attitude.

I was always told timing is everything, if when i first started this thread had someone who considered this a hackjob was first to respond and stated so, then another, if would just be a snowball effect, however the opposite happened.  :popcrn: perhaps this is what happened to others, it's a shame though i would genuinely like to see other "hack" threads just to see peoples work.... and get some ideas

Cooter, you just didn't go far enough. You need to go past the middle.......

I get where you are coming from.....there's a bit of that here......but it does not apply to me. I'm just such a great guy, no one would do that to me.

Or it may be because. my driveway is 1100' long.....and my Dodge "graveyard"[m'lady's word] is not visible from the road. Town officials know it's there......some of them come up every few years to reappraise and then raise my taxes. The cars are actually visible from satellite view....I've looked.

As to the "bit of that".....a few have tried....

A good friend had bought a building lot....and he cut some brush. Piled it....and like the common sense native of our fine state.....burned it. And yes, a guy with nothing better to do, called the appropriate town official to inquire if my friend had a burn permit.

The reply? "What's he need a burn permit for? It's raining. You didn't get one when you burned.....why ya asking about him?

My town does have it's share of [insert derogatory term here] but for the most part they keep their nose out of others business.
