I just updated the Chryslers in the Canyon post...our annual all Mopar (well everything is All Mopar, but I digress) cruise & show:
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,98167.0.html

I have wanted to get more Charger folks to the canyon for quite some time...I think just a small handful (Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas) would be plenty to suffice for more getting on board with me and wanting to make this happen.  It is an incredible venue and being the nice guy (or idiot) I am, I do it for the cars...in other words, as close to free as possible.

The "canyon" of course refers to Palo Duro Canyon...it is a state park and is dubbed the "Grand Canyon of Texas."  I have a great relationship with the park and can easily line things up for a gathering.

Amarillo (and Canyon) offer ample lodging and it is pretty reasonably priced compared to some of the "flashy" destinations you might attend.  I can line up group discounts at a few hotels as well.

Other items of interest are: The Big Texan Steak Ranch, Cadillac Ranch, Route 66, a few other eateries, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, AQHA etc.  There is really a little something for everyone.  There are enough shops in town and antique/thrift stores on 6th to satisfy most less car inclined spouses and children.

I can get everyone in the canyon on group rate admission (I believe it is $2 per person) and the drive down the lot is short and scenic...You have to go thru NO water crossings to get to the lot.  You can get some truly phenomenal pictures of your Charger and family in the canyon.  I might even be able to swing a pro-photographer like I do for CIC...She basically takes the pics, does your special request shots, and then hosts the pics on SmugMug where you can buy what you like.

If there is no burn ban we can do a bring your own bbq and cook out in the canyon.  If things are dry, we can bring sack lunches.  Catering is an option, but costs a bit more than if everyone takes care of their own meal etc.

I would gladly spring for a few awards...mainly generic ones till we know what to expect (ie Long Hauler (you drive the farthest, you deserve something), Park Ranger's Pick, my pick, and maybe even a voted car etc)...I like to keep things low key and fun till they get going.

I have a friend that can prob design shirts and I could get them up on CafePress for those that want one to buy etc.

Basically just a really fun time for Dodge Chargers.

If anyone is inclined to race, our track usually runs every other week from March-October.

I can do this for free...I just don't want to be the only guy in the canyon.  The more the merrier.

I am trying to gauge interest and see if anyone would be up for joining in...

Amarillo is centrally located, especially considering most stuff is on the west coast, east coast, or Ohio/PA etc.  It wouldn't be for everyone, but I know many of you drive miles and miles for Boerne etc.  I was finally able to go to that and found it was cancelled :s  I really think if just a few folks make it out the pictures and stories will do wonders for encouraging more to join us.

If we want to set this up, you are going to be out all of about $2-5 per person to get in the canyon and have fun.

Please let me know if this is something you are interested in and if you would be willing to head this direction.  Chryslers in the Canyon would give you a nice feel for what to expect.  That said, if there is enough interest I can move on Chargers in the Canyon this year  :icon_smile_big:

Main goals are to get Chargers and their owners together, network, keep it as close to free as possible, and most importantly...have fun!

I will post some pics and vids later tonight when I'm at the house.

As promised, here is some media...

Drive Down into the canyon:

Leaving the canyon:

We've got several other videos...there would be more if I had the time to take them!

Here are a few pics:

The entire canyon is nothing but photogenic.  You can get some killer shots here that you simply can't get anywhere else.  Most of these are just from the parking lot!  There are a ton more photo ops on the way in, and deeper into the park.

We could basically show up, shoot the breeze, take some pics, give out a little hardware, take some more pics, and cruise up to the dragstrip or Big Texan etc for dinner.

As you can see, we have quite a few "local" Chargers in the mix...the pics are just what  I could scrounge up at 330 AM.  All we need is for more of you to come join us and make this happen.

I read all the time how everyone wishes there were more "Charger" only events.  I'm willing to help make this happen.  We aren't talking about sticking the cars in a mall parking lot, or telling you the photo op is the shade tree...this is the real deal.  A state park with incredible scenery.  It is a magazine feature writer's wet dream.  Several members have started having Della, our photographer, take family pics while the event goes on...

I've got a few people locally that I know would help out if we got this going...All we really need is YOU to show up and enjoy it.

Chryslers in the Canyon is great, and I highly recommend you try it out...Those that attend from out-of-the-area love it and continue to come back with friends.

I know Chargers in the Canyon can do the same...

Are you up for the challenge of building an ALL DODGE CHARGER EVENT from the ground up?  There is only one way to go...

Let me know if you are interested.

Looks like an interesting location. :2thumbs:  Unfortunately, I'm unable to attend.  Between work, and a few projects, I'm booked.  I'll have to make a note to attend in the future though

I hear that...nothing is set in stone just yet since it is just testing the waters.  Chryslers in the Canyon is Saturday, October 12th, 2013...

Chargers in the Canyon can be set to whatever date works bets for folks...the fall is definitely the best imo.

We'd love to have you join us...if you are ever going to be thru Amarillo, just let me know.  We will get some cars out for you.

I would love to attend a Charger meet and/or CIC this year as my Charger will be ready for sure by then; however, Amarillo is 600 miles from here and I  do not want my car to EVER see rain again. That would necessitate me obtaining an enclosed trailer. I already have a 2004 Dodge 2500 Quadcab to pull it there. Buy one or rent one, I gotta have one to go that far and still, no rain at the event is not guaranteed, although a remote chance for sure.

If I can get an enclosed trailer to get my Charger up there, I would love to come up there. I just have to find a good buy on one and would have to arrange storing it as it cannot stay here as I live in a big subdivision without room for the trailer.

TexasStroker

We need all the rain we can get up here, but it is usually unlikely, lol.

If you can't land an enclosed trailer by Oct, feel free to head up anyway...I know you'd have a good time.  You can then speak first hand and help pull for Chargers in the Canyon.

Personally, I wouldn't mind setting up Chargers in the Canyon in October or September as those months have the best potential weather for an event like this.  However, if the interested parties arise and want April or November etc I will run with that...Goal is to get as many people as possible to come out and have fun.
