UPDATE: CAR WAS FOUND

I'm spreading the word about a stolen vehicle. I've wanted to buy this car for the last 10 years and finally was in the process of buying this car when it was stolen. Thankfully no money had changed hands yet. I noticed it gone this morning and phoned the seller and he let me know what was going on. The seller moved out of the house a few months ago so the house was vacant. Somebody must of been watching the car for the past little while. I noticed a few weeks ago the back of the tarp had been played with but didn't think much of it. The seller noticed a tow truck sitting close to the house a few weeks ago as well.

It's a 1968 Dodge Charger- VIN # XP29H8B120926 and licence plate # WBW-720 (with an expiration decal of Sept. 95). 383-4bbl Big Block. Orange w/ black interior and Vector mags. Bucket seats & console shift. It's hard to miss being the only '68 Charger out there with a '69 Charger tail light panel. It was stolen from Ewen Ave & Campbell Street in the Queensborough area of New Westminster this past Friday night (March 22nd). It does not run or drive so it had to have been stolen with either a tow truck or a car trailer with a winch. The gate behind the car leading to the street is broken up and there are tire drag marks across the lawn. I don't see the tarp from the car anywhere so I'm thinking it was grabbed with the tarps still on it just to get it out of there quickly. Somebody must of seen something, the owner is asking around with neighbours. If anybody has seen it please let me know by calling me at 604-xxx-xxxx or call the New Westminster Police Department. They have been notified of the theft. The car or any parts from the car (if it's parted out) have to turn up somewhere eventually.

Man, that really sucks. I doubt it will turn up down here (SE Texas) but I will keep a look out online for it. Like you said, there cannot be many '68 Chargers with a '69 tail light panel installed. I am really afraid it might be parted out!

I'll keep an eye out, doubt it will show up in ontario, but worth a look,  :-\  That poor car :(

I'm curious as to why someone would steal a car in that condition.    Seems like an awful big risk to take for a car that needs so much work.  I'm sure a little cash could be made selling some of the stuff in there but it doesn't seem like it's worth the risk for what little might be salvageable as-is.

Restoring a charger is like a saying I heard along time ago "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it".... Jesus I wish I could remember who said that...

I'm betting the city had it towed to the crusher.  :scratchchin:

Its been here for 13 years in that spot. If they would of towed it, it would of been a long time ago and they would of towed the other car in the driveway that has no insurance and a flat tire. Also, the Charger was taken in the middle of the night on Friday night and taken so quickly the gates were broken in the process. Doubt the city would of done that :Twocents:

You would think if it was the city they would have left a notice before they would take that course of action or atleast a bill for the storage and fine???  Either way that really sucks I hope that it and the person involved is found :flame:
This hobby is more than just our cars, it's the people you get to meet along the way!!!

Any way to identify the tow truck - color scheme, type?  I realize it is probably a private vehicle, not the area's largest tow company.

Give the condition of the car I would think it would show up on a dirt track or at HLPAG if it isn't parted.

No way to identify the tow vehicle unfortunately. Surprisingly the car was very solid besides the usual quarters. Even the front floor pans were great.

Damn Cody, that's a sh*tty deal! I had been wondering if you had been doing anything with that car.
I browse for sale ads for chargers and charger parts almost daily so i'll keep an eye out for anything over here on the island.

mopar_man

What about the 68-70 B5 Charger that was bought in Alberta or near there a few years ago . The owner was given a useless check  and the guy loaded up the Charger onto a stolen inclosed trailer and stolen Dodge ram i think . There was a pic of the guy and the owner on here or Moparts . Just wondering if they got the dirtbag .
Not likely that Charger will make it across the country, i'm guessing its still within a 100 miles of where it was stolen . I'd start checking on the back of all the restoration shops and body shops . Could be taken just for the numbers switch but with the vin out on the net it doesn't make much sense.
Best of luck in find the car .

Indygenerallee

Sorry about it being stolen but that Charger looked REALLY ROUGH!! I doubt anyone will ever find "The Car". It will be parted out unfortunately. In my town if the city tows your car they will put a bright orange or yellow tag on the car at least 2 times before it gets towed and they certainly don't do it at night. I would say someone used a "Sneeker" (wheel lift) tow unit on a regular truck (probably stolen) that can be removed quickly and transferred to another truck. I heard of this being done a few years back when scrap prices were through the roof, one guy just went down the street and started picking up cars and hauling them to the scrapyard, a few salvage yards at the time required titles but many did not and this was the case. Sorry but it does not look good.  :rotz: :rotz:
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

chargd72

Scum.  I don't understand how so many people in this world make their living by leaching off everyone else.  I really hope I catch someone in the act of something like this some day.  The legal system will not be involved.

The house was vacant ? some neighbor may have viewed it as an eyesore and had it towed Or the city did. There were probably people who were also looking at it over the years and may have decided it was abandoned, but whatever happened it is wrong to just take something. the owner should have used better common sense and not "just left it behind" on a vacated property. Good thing YOU didn't put out any money or this would be your problem and not the owners. I hope you can find it in 1 piece and get the charger back in shape.

Sadly it sounds as if someone stole the car and more than likely it will be or already has been disassembled to be parted out.  If some city official had it towed, they would have left a notice of some kind and the police would have a record as well.  But since it was taken in the middle of the night and a gate was damaged....it was stolen.  I wouldn't hold out much hope of ever seeing that Charger again...only as pieces on other Chargers.  Can't understand why the owner would leave it unattended at a vacant house...that was just asking to make it a target.

I would also check around all the scrap yards/crushers within a 100 mile radius.  I would go to each individual one and put a picture of the car in their office so if it does come in their yard they will know not to scrap it.  There are not too many scrap yards around my neck of the woods, but there may be too many to go to everyone of them in your area.  Just my  :Twocents:  I'll keep an eye out on craigslist and ebay.  I really hope this will turn up in a good way!  Stupid theives. I hope they all go to hell one day.  :flame:
