Hey Guys,

I just found a great deal on a 70 Barracuda that I couldn't pass up and best part was the car was local.  The owner for the past 16 years didn't even know what year the car was and had no idea what he had sitting on his driveway.  Anyways a little info on the car for my fellow mopar lovers its a real BH23N code car and all original (Have clean fender tag, inspection plate from LA assembly plant, and vin # decal on the drivers door).  Car originally came with a 383 4 barrel, D21 4spd car, FK5 Burnt orange exterior, cuda rally cluster, 3speed wiper, Manual steering, power disc brakes, and black interior. Best part is the car was sitting for 10 years and the owner thought the motor was blown.  Turns out after changing the points and other misc ignition pieces the car fired right up!!!!! Motor sounded great too with no knocking   I guess he was telling the truth when he said it was running before he parked it  :icon_smile_big: :2thumbs:

Anyways I just have a couple questions as I am most likely going to restore the car back to original.

1) Is this the original brake booster/master cylinder combo for the car?

2) Can someone  help ID these numbers on the side of my engine block and help me identify if its the the original motor for the car?
2488130 or 2466130 (Had trouble reading from under the car so the 8's could be 6's) # was located on drivers side of the block.

3) Where on the core support/firewall can I locate more vin numbers or ID markers? I believe this is an all original unmolested car. So far the fender tag matches the vin on the dash and vin plaque on the inside drivers door.

5) Is this the NOS voltage regulator? Looks like its an original and correct for the car.

6) Correct jack assembly?  I am missing the handle though.  Have to check in the box that the previous owner gave me.  Don't think it was in there though

Some teaser shots

Thank you all in advance as I have not registered on the cudachallenger forums yet and always appreciate the knowledge on this forum and help along the way with my 69 RT.

Looks nice!!! I have never seen many Barracudas with the Rallye gauge cluster!! pretty neat! The Brake booster/master cylinder looks like the original. the regulator looks like a later replacement from the Mopar sticker. There is a vin stamped on the core support on the front side in front of the radiator. Looks like a clean barracuda!!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Thank you! It is definitely a clean car and according to production numbers its 1 of 602 barracudas equipped with a 383 4spd.  It's all intact and electrically in great shape.  Will have her road ready soon before I begin a full resto.

I've pulled the radiator out and just had it recore'd - ill check for the #'s later today.

Looks like it will be a lot of fun.   :2thumbs:
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Can't wait to start shifting through the gears!!! Always wanted a pistol grip mopar   :coolgleamA:

Master cylinder and booster look right. The regulator looks like a replacement. There are numbers on the jack for each year. I love the burnt orange .  :2thumbs: pretty cool it is a non console car.  :2thumbs:

69_Charger_RT

^^^ thx - ill check the numbers on the jack

Alaskan_TA

The partial VIN on the block is on the passenger side, down low. Look for a raised pad about 3" long. The VIN on the 4-speed is on the passenger side of the case.

1970 model year jack date codes at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dateCodes101.shtml

If it has chrome bumpers the jack hook part number is 2931101, it is stamped in the back side.

Does the car have disc brakes? If so, someone has swapped the master cylinder.

Barry, you the man.   That car really reminds of my Burnt Orange Barracuda GC . Mine even had slots.

Wow thanks for the info - I will try and ID everything.  And yes the car has factory disc brakes.

Car was covered with some cheap red primer or paint but I can see the original FK5 when the red flakes off and on certain patches.  Either way when I can it will be painted the burnt orange  :2thumbs:

That's going to be a full car to restore. Enjoy every minute of the process. Then drive hell out of it with a big grin on yer face!

That's the plan  - right now I'm just trying to get her on the road as I'm really close. :drive:

Awesome car.  I had an AAR and there was a vin stamping on top of the cowl. If you were sitting in the car in the drivers seat, it was to the left of the plastic vent piece thats on top of the cowl.  At least it was on my car, don't know if that's AAR specific but you may want to check.

Will do!  I will be under the car again on Wednesday and will look for the vin on the block and trans housing.  Will keep you guys and girls posted.  So far 3 out of 6 vin locations match up ( dash, fender tag, and drivers door). Crossing my fingers as this was an amazing find  :eek2:

You can go to http://www.aarta.com/frame.html & click on the #s matching button for an article with photos about the VIN locations.

There are not 'exact' spots for them on the radiator support or cowl. I have seen some near the center of the car, some on top of & some on the engine side of the radiator support, so you may have to look around a bit.

I couldn't help myself so I went in the garage and found my vin located on the cowl right by the drivers side cowl grill  :yesnod: so now 4 out of 6 match

Eventually when I pull the rear seats, maybe ill find the broadcast sheet  :2thumbs:

71ChallengeHer

Make sure you change that master cylinder . It prolly won't stop right or blow wheel cylinders. I had kinda the same problem on my Challenger. Someone put a disc brake master cylinder on a drum brake car. I kept blowing wheel cylinders til one of my friends noticed .

69_Charger_RT

Thanks for the heads up - I have a new booster/master cylinder combo going on the car to get the car on the road.  Eventually I will try and source an original m/c and rebuild everything when I have the money to fully restore.

Right now I am putting on a new brake system and fuel tank/lines.  All oem stuff will be rebuilt and go back on the car when I'm ready for a full resto/body work.  I'm just to anxious to drive the car and want to make sure it's safe.

LA had a 'no trash' policy, so broadcast sheets for LA cars are scarce. Most of the ones I have heard of so far leaked out inside one of the front seat backs. The only way to know for sure is to check all the normal places though, so good luck with the search!

Nice find, but we have to ask...How much ?

Interesting - ill try and look around the radiator support later.  I did notice last time I was under the car that someone marked the k member in 75.  Guy put his name and 5-1-75

Lets just say I see rotted out shells and incomplete cars go for sometimes double or triple than what I paid for a complete and running car.

69_Charger_RT

I'm finding a lot of numbers stamped on different parts of sheet metal.  One on grill latch support, one by hood bumper support, etc.   I'm assuming its original stamps from the factory on the sheet metal ??? Lower Quarters have little rust patches, rear window has no rust, fenders and hood are good, but only sheet metal I need is a trunk floor.

Alaskan_TA

The body stamps (non VIN) are from the outfits that stamped the sheet metal. If you see one with an SS it stands for Sterling Stamp in Michigan, a Chrysler owned sheet metal stamping facility.
