Daytona radiator choice....

The Daytona we're restoring to be factory correct should have an 26", 054 radiator in it. I'm looking around for an OE style 26" radiator and so far I have come up with these;

Year One's 26" Mopar BB radiator is currently on sale for $393

https://www.yearone.com/Product/1966-74-a-b-e-body/fjl25anh

US radiators who I'm told supply Year One, have a variety of Mopar OE style radiators ranging from $450 - $690
       - click on an individual radiator and the construction options are down the page

http://www.usradiator.com/radiators/dodge.html?cat=765

Question being, with that tiny little opening up front and a couple of thermo fans hidden inside the nose cone what do we need to get it right the first time???

Cheers, Tim.

Call Bob at Glen-Ray Radiators in WI.  He can build you a new 054 repro with a four-row core.

If you don't have the hot Summers like I have here in Houston, Texas, a 4-core radiator, with everything else new and good working order, should be fine WITHOUT having to install any pusher fans............

Some (If not all) 4-Speeds I believe came with 055's

Are you sure on the 054?

Is yours a stick or an automatic?

Also - Either find an original and send it to Glen-Ray or buy a new one from them. Forget the others listed....

Bob @ Glen-Ray can couple a much higher efficiency core with an original or reproduction top tank, to the point that you'd be hard-pressed to tell it wasn't a stock radiator (especially since you can't easily scrutinize a Daytona's radiator core).

DAY CLONA

Your better off going with a Glen-Ray radiator if correctness is your goal, the US radiators are fine for a daily driver, or a resto where factory correctness is not paramount, plus the US radiators have a nasty habit of not "clocking" the filler necks properly, which leads to the cap not closing with the ears paraell to the tank, they just randomly clock them at any position....Glen Ray radiators are works of art, nothing to do to them, other than mount them in the car

Mike

thehemikid

Good to hear about the "clocking" of the filler.  What about US Radiator's "triple flow" option, do you have any experience or know of anyone who's run one.

I just got a radiator from Gen-Ray for the Charger.   Stunning.  A piece of art.

I did their "max cool" which is a 4 row made to look stock.

Glen-Ray radiators arrive in a very sturdy box, with all hardware to install including shroud nuts, radiator bolts, even the right cap!   Here is mine just out of the box.   This is the 4-row, it is slightly thicker but very hard to tell, the brackets on the side are stock size.

Installed picture.   Plenty of clearance with the slightly bigger radiator, though you have to make sure you have the right fan clutch assembly, some of the aftermarket units are too long.   The radiator took almost a gallon of coolant more than what I had emptied when swapping.

I really liked that the top is specific to your car, they will also date code the bracket

If you have a top tank and brackets do they rebuild them also ? Does anybody know if the top tank would swap onto a US radiator ?

Yes - They will rebuild your original rad as well.

Maxwellwedge/Troy, yes the car is an auto as Geno said, thanks.

Glen-Ray it is by the sound of it.

Would the Daytona have had the large or small print radiator number?

Good question - I'll have to look at the rad fonts on my cars and let you know.

Ok - Looks like small font wins.

Regarding font.

The change from large to small font radiators happened towards the middle of the 1969 model year build.   I have had two early build A12 cars, one was one of the first 12 made in March of 1969.   It had small font.

Here is a great link that explains the cut over.

Make sure you understand "early" in the production year in the automotive world is completely different than the calendar year. Anything after January is considered practically midyear. In my '69 Charger 500, which was built prior to Jan. 1969, the radiator is the big font. Same number, just big font. An "early" production car would be something built from say, the 2nd week of Aug toward a couple of months afterwards.... ( Sept or Oct )...

Seriously, is there a coorelation between 4.10 s and automatic cars?
